Welcome from the Subject Rep
Hi, I’m Lorcan and I read Philosophy and Theology. Jesus have a small intake of ~2 each year (about 27 uni-wide) for a three-year BA, but don’t let that put you off! - I couldn’t recommend the course highly enough. Despite first-year logic lending some variation in content, it’s pretty heavily essay-based, which means not many contact hours a week (probably just under 10), though the course covers thousands of years of history. A detailed degree structure can be found in the schedule of papers here - it’s great studying joint honours precisely because it provides so much variety, and though Jesus doesn’t have a dedicated theology tutor at the moment (you can expect to be moving around Oxford a bit in that regard - just ask if you have any questions about geography), the course supervisor is great at communicating between tutors so things run as smoothly as possible.
Don’t stress too much about summer reading - most of it isn’t relevant as essay-specific reading lists are fairly comprehensive, though The Logic Manual and Utilitarianism are worth reading for philosophy, and if you pick Intro to the Bible like I did, flipping through Luke’s Gospel, the Acts of the Apostles and the book of Genesis would give you a good head start. Don’t worry if you haven’t studied theology before or aren’t religious - that has absolutely no bearing at all on ability; learning is what you’re here for.
If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to send them my way!
