The Jesus Rugby teams, made up nearly entirely of undergraduate students, plays mainly against other Oxford colleges in a league and in a knock-out competition, known as Cuppers. The first two terms, Michaelmas and Hilary, are the busiest with one match per week, usually on Saturdays. Rugby within college is open to any and all. Everyone is more than welcome to give it a try and see if it is to their liking – the more the merrier!
The standard of rugby is a step or two below the university teams, although it is possible to get involved with both the college team and one of the university teams. There is also a hectic social side to the team with fortnightly team-bonding exercises, a match against Jesus College Cambridge, an All-Stars game, which sees past players return, and an end of year dinner.
The College pitches are located by the third year accommodation in Barts, on Cowley Road. There will be taster sessions during freshers week so please do come along and join in. There will be a facebook group for the whole rugby team through which I shall release details and information as such so send me a message on Facebook if you’d like to be a part of it.
