Hi! I'm Ed, a second-year PPE student and President of the JCR. This means I represent the interests of undergraduates, taking their concerns and requests to College. I also try to keep communication and organisation within the JCR running smoothly, so that it's easier for the rest of the Committee to do their jobs. I'm always open to hearing suggestions you have for making Jesus better, or criticisms of the way the JCR and/or I do things - hit me up anytime with an email or on Facebook.
Do have a look at all the roles below, and try and get to know who's who - they're a wonderful bunch of people and between them cover pretty much every aspect of life at Jesus College. Hope to see you around
Hey I’m Ria, a second year English student, and I’m the JCR Vice-President/Treasurer this year! My role on committee is to manage and plan all the JCR finances, which includes spending on college social events and student newspapers and magazines, and overseeing the money that is available to the undergraduate body through JCR motions. As Vice-President, I work closely with Ed to ensure that the JCR runs smoothly, and I am also quite involved with access, and equality and diversity programmes at Jesus.
I’m Katherine, a second year engineer and this year’s JCR secretary! My role is to keep everyone and everything organised. This includes taking minutes, sorting out the agenda for JCR meetings, maintaining the display boards in the JCR, keeping the constitution up to date, and sending out weekly emails with notices of all the exciting opportunities around Oxford. I’ll be working closely with Ed and Ria to make sure everything runs smoothly. I’m a great person to ask about motions, elections, meetings, the constitution, or anything else JCR related, particularly if you’re not sure who to ask!
My name’s Mike and I’m a 2nd year linguist. As the male/non-binary welfare rep I work alongside Christina to ensure welfare is being provided properly in college. That includes organising welfare events from welfare teas to welfare weekend, providing welfare supplies in the JCR locker or by pidge, and organising JCR welfare activities like Welfairy and finalists’ massages. Christina and I are keen to hear your ideas on how make welfare provision at Jesus better than ever, so do let us know of any budding welfare-y ideas you have. I’ll be joining our team of trained Peer Supporters in Trinity 2018 but I’m always around college or at the end of the phone if you want to chat about anything at all, go for a coffee or even a quick game of pool
Hi! I’m Christina and I am a second year lawyer.
I like coffee, painting and Fever Fridays (Bridge Thursdays are good too). Beyond that, I enjoy helping people. The Oxford life can be intense, and mental health is key to making the most of it. As Welfare Officer, I am peer-support trained to provide a confidential listening-service. If you ever need someone to talk to, please don’t suffer in silence! My JCR role also includes liaising with college staff over welfare-related issues. Therefore, I can act as a first port of call if you have any recommendations/issues related to welfare. Feel free to approach me about anything welfare-related at anytime. Drop in during Welfare Tea, or send me a Facebook message/email and we will find a time to meet that suits you (I’ll take you out for a coffee xx).
My name’s Jenny and I’m a second year chemist at Jesus. I’m the access rep this year which means that I’ll be working towards fairer access into both Jesus College, and the university more widely. I’ll be doing things like filming mock interviews for the YouTube channel, continuing the Humans of Jesus Instagram page and promoting access schemes that members of the JCR can get involved with, like the UNIQ summer school, Project Access and Jacari (to name a few!).
I'm Jamie Slagel, a first year studying Philosophy and Linguistics and I'm your charities rep for 2019. As charities rep, my role is to oversee Jesus's charitable community and commitments, to continue to promote our elected charities for the term and elect ones for the next few terms and to lead and expand Jesus's charitable community and volunteering involvement. I am excited to get Jesus even more involved with charity and to help out others! Anyone wishing to learn about charities/volunteering or wanting to get involved, please do get in contact!
Hi, I’m Tor, a second year Geographer and your Academic Affairs rep.My role generally involves ensuring that Jesus is a welcoming and productive place to work, liaising with College's Academic Committee, and overseeing the JCR Careers Page. I have two main goals:1) To improve the college library through better communal stationary and drinking water provision.2) To ensure that the JCR is told of career opportunities in any and all areas, not just the classic Oxford focus on Law, Finance and Consulting! To do this more effectively I run a 'Academic sub-committee', which deals mainly with finding interesting job opportunities and recruitment events and informing the JCR of these. I also intend to connect the JCR more closely with our Alumni, ensuring that Students just about to embark on their careers have better access to the advice of those who have been there for a few years!
Heya! I’m Joe, a second year studying Biology, but as well as my interest in science I’ve always had a passion for all things artsy! I’m especially interested in visual arts, music and drama, and in my first year at Oxford I became particularly involved in singing and theatre productions at both a college and university scale, which led me to applying for and getting elected as the Arts Rep for this year’s JCR committee! This requires me to advertise the wide range of arts-related events taking place uni-wide to those at Jesus, as well as increasing the provision of arts within college. This includes things such as organising a cast and crew of Jesus students to put on a theatre production in Trinity term, bop costume fancy-dress workshops and a personal goal to initiate the establishment of a Jesus College arts funding body.
Hi, my name is Alex Serpell and I'm a third year Physics student at Jesus College. My role in the JCR Committee is Sports Rep. As part of that role I oversee sport at Jesus College and help organise and run larger sporting competitions involving the College. During my time as Sports Rep I hope to increase participation at Jesus College and ensure that everyone can join in with events such as a Casual Sports Day and Weekly Sport etc. I also run the Jesus College Mountaineering Club and participate in Hockey, Lacrosse and occasionally Football. If you have any questions for me you can likely find me in the Periodicals Library!
I’m a second year studying PPE. My role is to represent College on the OxSU Student Council and to help JCR members use OxSU effectively!Jesus holds three votes on OxSU Student Council meetings. These can be used to influence the issues OxSU campaigns on, whether University-wide or national. In Hilary Term, OxSU will have annual elections which we can all vote in as members. You can get in touch at any time to discuss potential OxSU council motions you’d like to bring forward! You can also talk to the relevant JCR committee members or use a JCR motion to bring issues to attention, which can then be brought to OxSU.If you have any general questions or enquiries about OxSU and its work, I’ll be happy to research and answer them for you!
Equal Opportunities Rep
Hiya! My name’s Liv and I am this year’s Equal Opportunities representative. I’m a second year Law student, originally from Australia and Wales. I have spent the last few years before Uni at school in Singapore, though I have moved around for most of my life! My role involves working together with my sub-committee to ensure that the needs of JCR members of all cultures, religions, and orientations, and disabilities are catered for. I am also involved in celebrating the incredible community we have here at Jesus, through encouraging equality and diversity campaigns. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns!
Hello ! I’m Lynne, a second year chemist and your E&E rep for 2019. I can usually be found around the library or more commonly procrastinating in Pret (with my Keep Cup, naturally). This year I’ll be doing everything I can to make Jesus #bleedgreener, from improving veggie and vegan provisions in hall and in the hatch to reducing waste produced during bops. I’ll also be tidying the JCR (beware the dreaded locker cull), and furthering the divestment campaign, making sure that Jesus’ social impact is as positive as possible. Look out for all new green formals as well as plenty of updates on university-wide schemes and volunteering opportunities with OxHub ! Feel free to contact me any time with any of your environmental / ethical questions or suggestions
My name’s Michael and I’m the ACC rep. I liaise with college about issues relating to accommodation (both in college and in the annexes), catering and the booking of conference rooms. I’m also responsible for hosting events in the college bar, such as the weekly pub quiz.
Hey! I'm Nowell, a 2nd year mathematician and the JCR IT Officer. My job includes running JCR and Charities Elections, running the JCR website and social media, and looking after the speakers and TV in the JCR. This isn’t the most glamorous work, but without me the whole system would crumble. Please text me or email me if you have any printing, WIFI, or other IT-related issues and I’ll be happy to help!
Hi, I’m Clara, a second-year English student and your Social Sec this year! I’m responsible for organising college social events, as well as promoting an inclusive and friendly atmosphere within the JCR community. Each term Jesus puts on lots of social events which everyone is encouraged to get involved in; these range from bar parties to inter-year crewdates and the famous Oxford bop… but also include more low-key events, such as themed formals. I’ll also be organising one big external event towards the end of each term: Cocktail Dance in Hilary, Jesus Summer Soirée in Trinity and Dinner Dance come December. Please drop me an email or a Facebook message if you have any questions about Jesus’ social events, or if you have any ideas of things you’d like to do (bop theme suggestions very welcome!!).
I’m Laura, a third year lawyer, and I’m Entz rep for Hilary Term 2019. I will be informing you throughout term of all entz related things going on in Oxford. I’ll send emails and also use the Jesus Entz Facebook page to post about club nights, gigs, etc. I will also be providing you with wristbands for discounted entry and queue jump. I’ll be helping to organise next term’s bops and hopefully put on some more fun events throughout term. If you have any questions/ideas for entz stuff next term let me know!
