Message from a Student

Hi! I’m Louis, a second year student at Jesus and your English subject rep. The best thing about this degree (besides allowing you to sound clever in any and all company) is its breadth. Over the course of your three years at Oxford you’ll have an encounter with pretty much every period of English literature, from the Anglo-Saxons to the modern day. In your first year you’ll study four “prelims” papers: the Old English, Victorian and Modern periods, and one language paper. In your second and third years you’ll study four more period papers as well as completing a portfolio on Shakespeare. Throughout your entire degree, your tutors will encourage you to pursue the authors, texts and subjects that interest and excite you the most. Jesus is the perfect place to study English, and both the tutors and the students will be more than happy to answer any more questions you might have!
