Moving In

This page has useful information on arrival in college for both UK and International students. See below directions and what to bring.

 Getting into College

Jesus is located in the heart of Oxford, which is largely pedestrianised and subject to a complicated one-way system. .

Once you arrive, GO TO THE LODGE FIRST. It’s just inside the Turl St entrance into college. Here, you can check in and collect your fob, as well as a temporary parking permit for a car if you need one.

Directions on how to get into college are below:

Address:
Jesus College
Turl Street, Oxford
OX1 3DW
  • Getting to Jesus in a car can be difficult. You need to get to Turl Street or Ship street (this is where you can temporarily park to unload). Directions are below:

In the lodge (entrance on Turl St), you can collect a temporary parking permit, which means that traffic wardens won’t fine you for parking there. It’s also possible to print one off beforehand- college should email you the link.

  • The coach and train stations are within walking distance. The train station is roughlt a 10 minute walk. International students will most likely be arriving via London airports, which run coach services to Oxford.

The Oxford Express from Heathrow for example takes only 50 minutes and leaves every 20 minutes. The timetables can be found here:

    https://airline.oxfordbus.co.uk/timetables/airline-heathrow#timetable

Ask the driver to stop on the High Street. To reach college freom here, turn down the narrow road Turl Street, and the college will be on the left hand side after all the shops.

The Gloucester Green Bus Station is down George Street and is only a 5 minute walk from college, which is incredibly convenient!

What to bring:

What to Bring- click this link to open advice on what items to bring and not to bring for your first term at Oxford.

International students

  • International Students are allowed to move in a couple of days before Freshers Week starts. Once you get your Online Welcome Pack from college, you'll be given more information about moving in!

  • International students are currently allowed either two large suitcases or three small boxes in college during the vacation - so you don’t need to take all your stuff home every time.

There’s a few ways to save luggage space - definitely go for the bedding pack you can order through college, and you can buy all household items in Oxford

  • See the document above for a useful list.

Apart from this the main essential is adapters! You will absolutely need these.

Finally, be aware that the weather in the UK might be very different to what you’re used to. Here’s a general guide of what kind of clothes you’ll need for different terms:

Michaelmas- cardigans, sweaters, and for a bit later in the term a thick jacket/coat, and definitely a raincoat and an umbrella

Hilary- shoes that can brace the snow, scarves, hats, gloves, a thick jacket/coat

Trinity- weather gets a lot nicer, so bring more summery stuff!

  • There may be a few things you'll need to do before moving in, such as getting a Student Visa; when you move over here, there will also be things you need to do, such as getting your resident's permit, getting a UK SIM card and setting up a bank account.
