Hi, I’m Caitlyn and I’m a second-year Geography student. Oxford provides a balanced view of physical and human Geography; in your first year (“Prelims”) you will explore four modules: Earth System Processes, Human Geography, Geographical Controversies and Geographical Techniques. In second and third year (Final Honour School) you get to study Geographical Thought, chose two out of three foundational modules and three options, allowing you to specialise in areas of particular interest. Assessment is largely based on exams; however, it is supplemented by extended essays, a final year dissertation and fieldwork. Fieldwork is undertaken throughout the course, and it provides an opportunity to meet geography students across the university. The geography community at Jesus is a close knit one- if you have any questions or need any help everyone is willing to help or guide you in the right direction, whether that be peers or tutors.
