Hi, my name is Will and I’m a 2nd Year PPEist at Jesus. PPE is an exciting subject which allows you to follow your interests in a way that other degrees don’t in such a broad way and it has now been taught at Oxford for over 100 years! In your first year, you will study all three branches of the subject. For Philosophy you will take Moral Philosophy (J.S. Mill’s Utilitarianism) and General Philosophy (a brief study of questions of epistemology and free will). As well as this you will take an elementary Philosophical logic course. In Politics you will study Political Theory (political philosophy such as Marx and Rousseau) as well as Empirical politics (analysing different arenas of politics with qualitative and quantitative techniques). In Economics you will study Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Beyond your first year you can choose to drop a subject or continue with all three. From here there is a great deal of choice and potential specialisation.
